We are Table Tennis East Lothian / Haddington Table Tennis Club.
Having started a programme in 2016 to introduce table tennis as a regular fun sport in East Lothian schools, Community Centres and Sheltered Housing, we are now a finalist in The 2017 People’s Projects (www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk) for an award of up to £50,000 from the Lottery Fund to support and develop our programme across East Lothian.
Last year our volunteers ran classes in schools, and in the community for people with a range of needs including physical and learning disabilities, and for the elderly which includes one regular player of 94!
If we are the most voted-for project following the launch on STV (2pm Monday 20th March) then our Table Tennis East Lothian Project will:
Provide additional table tennis equipment to East Lothian schools and community venues including sheltered housing.
Provide further qualified coaches to run regular sessions in these venues
Promote Health and Wellbeing through regular exercise – and having fun!
Table tennis is not only a fun sport but also maintains both physical and mental agility in children and adults of all ages. It is recognised as helping to delay for example, the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. We have already had heartfelt appreciation from relatives of residents in sheltered housing who have rediscovered some of their youthful flair and activity.
To secure this award we need votes from all our friends, neighbours and business contacts; the result depends entirely on the number of votes for our project from the public.
